Shockingly, after about 40 hours, I still haven't made it there yet. No one ever told me Thailand was quite so far away....or really, I've had one heck of a layover. Asiana has been a rockstar airline...starting with the food. How fascinating is this?
Bi Bim Bab. I'm not going to lie, at first I was a little frightened. Not by the ethnicity of the meal, but by the beef everywhere. The entire flight was one big beef fest, you merely had a choice on which nationality your cow mooed. Luckily, it was always right on the side and could easily be flung away. Mix in a bit of rice, some red pepper paste and this was the absolute best airline meal I've ever had. I tried to find a "I heart Bi-Bim-Bab" t-shirt during my wanderings through Seoul, but sadly, they did not exist.
And if fabulous food wasn't enough, Asiana actually anticipated that with only 30 mins, between the Seoul and Bangkok flight, I might actually miss my connecting flight, they booked a hotel, transport and all meals at a hotel in downtown Seoul. I've had airline compensation before, but it usually involved a Days Inn right under the hottest flight pattern in the area. While Asiana definitely could have booked us at one of the many hotels near Incheon Airport, they opted instead to drive our butts 60 mins into the heart of Seoul to stay in a fab hotel. Best layover ever. Just a couple of photos...have to run to the gate to actually catch that flight to Bangkok.

ReplyDeleteYou are receiving some strange looks from people in that last photo. I think that it's a look which says "Frickin' tourist", but I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteThere are an awful lot of English-language signs there...I am left wondering what sort of company "Star Shot" is.
My husband lived in Seoul for a few years when he was in his early 20's.
ReplyDeleteI imagine if I show him these pictures that he will once again try to convince me I need to make a journey over there with him. Your pictures might be the motivation I need to finally say yes (one day!)
I see a GAP sign, so I know I could be happy there! :)
ReplyDeletedid you find any 'Coach'?
Coolest missed flight ever!
