NY Beaches and Piers

It's a little bit difficult to move from a frantic mode that extended all the way until I arrived at the boarding gate, but a little NY beach action helps get the relaxing underway.

While some swear by those pretty awesome California and west coast beaches, deep down, I think I'll always be an east coast beach kind of girl.  Yes, the water may be a bit colder up in the northeast, but the dunes, peaceful meandering bike paths and colonial US charm more than make up for it.  I'll take Cape Cod, Maine, NY and North Carolina beaches any day.

I was still working through some glitches even up to today, but I think I can finally take a deep breath and go into relaxation mode.

Fire Island helps a lot.

When I lived in NY I was lucky enough to live just a block from Rye Playland, beach and boardwalk.  Just a little stroll and I was definitely reminded how nice it was to live so close to the water that you could smell it every time you went outside.

I met Dennis on my stroll down the boardwalk and since it's one of my goals to stop, acknowledge people and listen more, I got to hear his stories about WWII.  Dennis was an aerial photographer and just 17 when he joined the service during WWII.  He is still eager to tell his stories all these years later and I was glad to hear them.  I'm pretty sure we don't honor and appreciate our vets as much as we should. I'm definitely guilty as charged.

Yep, definitely miss living near the water.

  1. I grew up in Bellport and spent my teenage years roasting myself on Fire Island. It still has the best memories for me and we definitely try to get out kids there very few years so they have the memories there too. Beautiful pictures!

  2. The beach has a way of melting your stress away and this one looks beautiful! Since I'm a Cali girl I do prefer the west coast beaches but definitely appreciate the beauty of east coast beaches. They definitely have a whole different feel to them!

  5. We visited Rye Playland once when I was after the movie Big came out and I begged and begged my parents to go visit the place with the fortune telling machine. Haha. It wasn't there but it does have a cool boardwalk vibe for sure!
