101 in 1001

It seems everywhere you turn in blogland, peeps have created their 101 in 1001 lists.  I love them.

What I love about the entire 1001 concept is that it's a realistic time frame to allow goals like foreign travel and allows you the ups and downs in motivation that you may not have time to recover from if it is a one year/New Years Resolution type list.  1001 days.  That's plenty of time to accomplish your goals.  And while I know that it's usually pretty hard to hit our goals 100%, I do think it makes us focus on them and try.  I didn't complete my cookbook challenge, but I'm pretty sure I cooked out of 50 more cookbooks than I would have had I not made the goal at all.

I'm not going to lie and pretend I didn't go completely type A on my list.   I imported it into excel, added estimated dollar values to those that had costs and summed them.

And finance isn't the only consideration...ahhh, PTO.  Vacation time is that elusive factor for most of us.  While I would have loved to add "visit Greece," "Visit Ireland" and "Spend a week in Cinque Terre and a week in Provence" to the list, it's probably too optimistic to have a goal to take 4 international vacations in 2.75 years.  But I do know I must get back to England soon and walk through old cobbled lanes in the Cotswolds.  Do stone cottage timeshares exist?

I created a separate page for my list above so it'll be easier to pull up to make updates.  It only has 81 items currently because it seems I'm really not all that ambitious.  I plan on an August 15th start date which gives me all weekend to finalize my list.  But seriously...how have people come up with 101?!?

For those who haven't found their "pages" functionality in blogger yet and are wondering how to create new pages...when you go to "Posting" you have an option for new posts, edit posts, or new page. You choose "new page" type your "about me" or whatever info you want to put on a new page.  You then go to the design tab and it gives you the option to configure the order they appear across the top of your blog..

And because a post should always have pictures in my mind, a bit of inspiration for meeting that one all important goal...travel.

Where's your favorite vacation spot?  Are you a beach type or a Europe type?

I am beach bum. I think I could happily retire to the carribean and be happy. We vacation in Barbados quite a bit but love Costa Rica too!

I've never heard of this challenge bu love the idea of having a lengthy time to complete the goals.

I love the shot overlooking Monaco. I've always wanted to visit there. My husband is a beach guy though so we generally tend to go on beach vacations with the kids. Easier and cheaper than Europe!

I think writing down goals does cause you to think about them and make more effort to complete them than if you don't write them down.

How fun to read your blog. I own more cookbooks than most and I constantly get frustrated that I don't try more recipes. I loved reading your bite sized goals. I'll bet I could try just 5 recipes in the next month, just 5. Hope you have an awesome Friday :)

My husband is a project manager and he read this (he trolls blogs looking for food he wants me to cook for him and he's always picking stuff from your blog that doesn't include spinach :) ) and he agreed with your original way because reading 10 books takes way more time and work than some of the others and should have a higher weighting. LOL.

Travel tops my goal list everytime too. I started the 101 list in my journal and only made it to 51 items, but I'm plugging along in those.

Europe all the way!!! I love Paris.

Awesome!! Travel is the best regardless of whether it's Europe or the beach. I think my favorite place of all time is probably Australia.

Beach all the way. I think I could happily sit on a beach for the rest of my days and do absolutely nothing.

That is hysterical. I would have done a cost evaluation too!

The picture of you above Monaco is awesome. Where was it taken? We loved Monaco, it was one of our favorite places with its designers and fancy cars everywhere. It felt like you were immersed in the lives of the rich and famous. :) But we never saw it from that high vantage point. Gorgeous!

I try to get back to Tuscany every couple of years. I could live there in a heartbeat it's so calm and relaxed and just plain fantastic. Maybe I should make a goal list too and try and get Tuscany on there every year!

Good luck with the challenge! I've almost made a list a bunch of times but sometimes it seems overwhelming.

Beaches, beaches, beaches!

I started the 101 about 2 years ago and only finished 25. But it is true that it was 25 more than I probably would have had I not tried. It's a fun idea and I wish I'd stuck with it. Maybe I'll try again.

I love your photos of Italy. I think Italy would top my list and even be numbers 1-101! :)

Never heard of the 101 but it sounds pretty cool. Good luck! I'm a beach person as you know...but I do hope to see some of those cobblestone cottages one day soon.

I am a Paris girl all the way. It's my favorite place in the whole world with the cheeses and culture and museums. Love it but I wouldn't say no to kickin it on a beach. :)
