At what point does this stop becoming a blog and just become a vacation "home movie" that you make people watch? Since I have very little access to a kitchen, there's not a lot of food to post. I have to admit to really missing baking and cooking though. The other day I was craving super buttery banana bread. Mmmm....banana bread.
Vernazza is the second to last city if you are heading from the south/east. I've heard many say that this is their favorite of the 5 cities. I can see why it's well loved but I'll have to reserve judgement until I visit them all.
In true Cinque Terre style, Vernazza is filled with colorful fishing boats and homes and was especially filled with Italians sunbathing along the water.
This child is brave but he seemed to enjoy it. The water had a lot to say that day.
Just another superstar who lives on a cliff above the water.
Those of you who've been to Cinque Terre know that it is all about the stairs. How residents are able to climb these daily with groceries escapes me, but of course if there's a view to be had from above, I'm climbing.

I think I watched this guy (see him?) for a good 20 minutes because:
1. There was a killer cool breeze right at this exact corner perch of the castle and
2. I was fascinated by his ability to swim in what looked like a washing machine from up high. He bobbed and ducked under the white waves and came close to the rocks a million times and somehow never rode a wave into them.
While it's always busy, the filling of the streets comes in waves...curiously timed exactly to when each train arrives, then it calms down a bit until the next train.
What can I say about Vernazza that a million others haven't already said? Seriously, love this place.

I wish I was there right now. ;-P I can't believe that guy is swimming that water, he must be a really good swimmer. Maybe he lives in that house and does it everyday. :-)

Wow, Cinque Terra is amazing! I cannot believe how gorgeous the colors are and how blue the water is. I'm definitely going to start planning now, but I don't think you'll get me in the water if it's always like that!
I was fortunate to have toured Italy for three glorious weeks a few years ago. We traveled around Tuscany, Umbria and Calbria, and spent two entire days traveling through the small towns of Cinque Terre by foot. Two weeks after our visit to Cinque Terre the rain and floods occured, paralyzing the small coastal towns. Very, very sad to see photos of the destruction. So happy to see tourists and sunshine are there again. Good choice of words, Cinque Terre was absolutely magical — would love to return some day soon.
What? No way can you post too many photos. I'm making my vacation list and love reading about these places. I love all of the photos: more, more, more!!!
Bellissimo? Buono? Bella? I guess Italian is not my strong point. These photos are stunning as always. The colors are so vibrant and I can't believe how aqua the ocean is. Keep 'em coming!
Cinqua Terra has been on my bucket list forever and a day. We can't really with 4 kids under 5 but someday I can dream about it. These photos are so pretty!
We visited Riomaggiore right after the flood. We'd already booked our flights and taken the vacation time and didn't want to cancel but it was so devastating to see what the flood did to this beautiful town. It makes me so happy to see it's thriving once again and beautiful!
I like to come over and just look at your beautiful photos. because its a little escape from my day. I love the colours in this town as well as the ones from your last post. I can't convince my husband to go anywhere but Vegas on our vacations but if I could, this is where I'd want to go!

I read your post about the new camera a little bit ago when I was searching for a mirrorless camera review and love all these Italy pictures you've taken with it. It seems to create such vivid pictures. I think I'm sold.
Man oh man is Vernazza beautiful. Cinque Terre is on our list for our next trip to Italy and all your photos have convinced me that we need to go very soon! I love the colors and thanks for the info on the cities and the trails!
